Year In Review: Spotlighting Our SongwriterUniverse 2012 “Best Song Of The Month" Contest Winners
We are pleased to spotlight and honor our Twelve "Best Song Of The Month" Contest Winners for 2012. These monthly winners wrote the best songs which were submitted to SongwriterUniverse during the past year. All twelve winners are deserving of continued recognition and exposure. The winning songs were in many different genres of music, from pop, AC, rock, country, R&B, soul, Americana and folk.
2012 "Best Song Of The Month" Contest Winners.
Our "Best Song Of The Month" Contest was launched in August 2003. There have been many talented winners who have achieved success in the music business. Many of our winners have signed music publishing deals, placed their songs in film & TV, and have performed or toured with major artists & bands.
Two of our past contest winners, pop/R&B writer/artist Matt Palmer and Sarah Lewis of the pop/rock band Jag Star, signed staff writer/music publishing deals with HoriPro Music Publishing as a direct result of winning our song contest. Matt Palmer got a cut on the Big Time Rush album Elevate on Sony/Nickelodeon Records, and he's released two albums in Japan which have sold over 10,000 units.
Notably, our January 2006 winner Levi Kreis, has gone on to become an award-winning musical performer on Broadway. He currently stars in the acclaimed hit musical, Million Dollar Quartet, and he won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor In A Musical (for his role of Jerry Lee Lewis). Kreis is also a singer/songwriter who has released four albums. Kreis won our song contest for co-writing his song, "I Should Go."
Another previous contest winner is Mandi Perkins (our September 2004 Winner), a singer/songwriter who was signed to a label deal with Sony Music in 2008 and released her album, Alice in No Man's Land. She now fronts the rising band, of Verona, and she is a pro songwriter in Los Angeles who works with Toby Gad and other hit writer/producers.
In addition to our monthly song contest, our other music site, SingerUniverse, hosts the equally popular "Best Vocalist Of The Month" Competition. Notably, our August 2007 "Best Vocalist" winner, singer/songwriter Chloe Leighton, was signed to a major label deal with Beluga Heights/Warner Bros. Records, which is owned by top writer/producer J.R. Rotem. Also, our January 2009 "Best Vocalist" winner, Perla Batalla, is a prominent singer/songwriter who has toured frequently with legendary writer/artist Leonard Cohen.
Via our "Best Song Of The Month" and "Best Vocalist Of The Month" contests, we look forward to spotlighting & honoring excellent new songwriters, artists and vocalists in 2013, and for years to come.
